Senior Software Developer (Voice)

Linden Lab is looking for a Senior Software Developer (Voice) who can be the integration specialist to build both new and existing code related to voice features for Second Life. Second Life provides an immersive 3D visual and sonic environment and voice is a critical part of it. We're looking for an experienced developer with background in voice, networking, and interfaces who can help take our product mix to the next level. Tasks may include both server and client development. The ideal candidate will have specific experience related to voice or audio APIs, such as building voice-enabled applications for entertainment or business. Multi-platform experience is valued (Windows, Mac, and/or Linux); bonus points for background in mobile applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in collaboration with the product development and programming staff to deliver software design in different areas with the utmost passion for creativity and quality.
  • Contribute innovative, original, and effective ideas towards all aspects of production and development.
  • Implement networked, distributed systems, interfacing with all project subsystems including user interaction and avatar control, simulation and user interfaces.
  • Improve and document processes for teams and individuals.

Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of C++ required. Proficiency in a second language recommended.
  • Expertise in real-time software development, preferably related to sound or voice.
  • Expertise in data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
  • Strong and deep knowledge in 3 or more of: networking, databases, physical simulation, compiler and VM design, user interfaces, clustered computing, or systems architecture.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies desirable.
  • Proficiency with cross platform development and development on UNIX systems.
  • Exceptional problem solving and communication skills.
  • Strong customer requirement gathering and execution skills.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative environment on really interesting problems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, or eqivalent.
