Senior Front End Web Engineer

Overview:

Linden Lab is seeking Senior Front End Web Application Engineers to help us extend the Second Life platform to the web. From commerce systems to social networking applications, this role is responsible for the development of scalable, secure, and exquisitely functional presentation layer components. As an active participant in an iterative design process, this role collaborates with Information Architects, Designers, and Engineers on an equal basis to scope project requirements, resolve design & development dependencies, and guide projects toward polished execution.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain presentation layer UI and functionality across a range of Second Life web applications
• Optimize presentation layer components for performance and an exceptional user experience
• Collaborate directly with a cross-functional team of Information Architects, Content Strategists, Designers, Engineers, Product Managers, and other stakeholders to facilitate the design & development process
• Interpret web metrics and traffic/user reports, and apply knowledge accordingly
• Ensure brand, UI, and architectural consistency across all projects

Qualifications:

• Solid and versatile expertise with standard web development technologies, including PHP, Python/Django, XML, Javascript (jQuery), CSS, MySQL
• Expert knowledge of Adobe CS
• Expert knowledge of web standards and cross-platform/browser issues
• Thorough knowledge of design patterns, usability principles and best practices
• Experience with Subversion or other version control systems
• Understanding of REST and web service-oriented architecture
• Functional understanding of Flash and ActionScript
• Excellent communication skills, with an ability to clearly articulate complex design problems and solutions
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Experience interacting directly with stakeholders at all levels
• The ability to determine proper project scope by balancing multiple considerations from UI to ROI
• Refined sense of visual & interaction design, demonstrated in portfolio
• Impeccable attention to detail

Good To Have:

• Knowledge of Second Life's history and culture, with an articulated interest in new forms of 3D entertainment and social spaces
• Experience with web analytic tools
• Experience developing mobile web applications
• Experience with localization
• Experience working with QA & Release Management processes

Education and Experience:

• Minimum 7 years work experience in a web design/development role
• Formal background in design theory and fundamentals
