Overview:

Linden Lab is looking for a Director of Web Engineering and Architecture to help us bring Second Life and the Web closer together. Looking for the kind of architect who can not only lead the web technology vision for the engineers within the web development organization, but can build strong relationships with the architects in other technical areas of the company. In addition to great technical design and leadership skills, the right person will be able to retain their sense of humor even when things go sideways.

Responsibilities:

• Develop extensible architecture and framework for the SecondLife.com web properties - including considerations for scalability, reliability, international, customer self service, support and operations requirements
• Lead and develop a world-class technology team across multiple locations.
• Provide design guidance for to web engineering organization and inspire the team to continuously grow their design skills
• Provide technical due diligence on third party software
• Provide leadership in integration strategy between 3rd parties, the web technology environment and 3D virtual world technology environment
• Work with QA to drive QA automation strategy for the web
• Work with Release Mgt to drive environment, code mgt and release strategy for the web

Qualifications:

• Must have delivered multiple high volume, transaction oriented, high availability web systems
• Experience with eCommerce, dynamic content mangement and social networking preferred
• Experience with Java, PHP and MySQL preferred
• Must have strong leadership skills - able to lead through a highly concensus driven environment
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, combined with a passion for teaching and learning.
• Must thrive in multi-tasking, quick moving, demanding environment
• Absolutely *must* have a sense of humor
• Previous start-up experience a plus.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering. Masters in Computer Science is preferred.
• 10-15 years experience in a variety of web and database technologies, with 5+ years as a hands on manager
